Head to Ski Big Bear This Winter

Ski Big BearEven though the cusp of fall has just started to descend on the residents and visitors of Hawley, PA, one thing we at Ledges Hotel is looking forward to is the coming of snow. While for some snow means the headache of slippery roads and iced over windshields, for a lot of us snow means fun. There are so many fun activities that can be done when the ground is covered by snow. Here in the Pocono Mountains area, there are a lot of fun hills and mountains to ski or snowboard on but our favorite is just down the road at Ski Big Bear at Masthope Mountain in Lackawaxen, PA. Not familiar with Ski Big Bear, here are some things to look forward to when you plan your trip.

Ski Big Bear is an activity that we at Ledges Hotel recommend to all of our friends as well as visitors. Ski Big Bear is located at Masthope Mountain, which is a truly fun mountain that gives you amazing views of the surrounding areas. Ski Big Bear is well versed in training anyone, who wants to be, a skier. They have many options when it comes to lessons and packages for lessons to make your trip fun and educational. You can choose between group as well as private lessons. The basic group lesson for skiing or snowboarding is for ages 7 and up and is $32. During busy seasons, it is best to make a reservation for a group lesson but generally is not needed. Private lessons start at 4 years old and up and are $75. If you want to extend your lesson to 2 hours, you can for $135. If you want just your group in a private lesson, it is $35 for each additional person. If you want to have 5 private lessons, it will cost $325. There are also some great packages for those of you who have never stepped foot into a pair of skis or a snowboard before. For those aged 7-12, this package also includes a group lesson and is $95. For the same package, just for those aged 13 and older, it is $107. For our smaller children, there is the Big Bear Cub Program for ages 4-12. This provides 2 consecutive hours of private lessons. It starts at $135 for the program only. If you child has their own equipment and just needs a lift ticket, for the program and the lift ticket, it’s $160. If your family has a season pass or already has a lift ticket and only needs equipment, for the program and equipment, it’s also $160. Lastly, if you need everything, the lift ticket, equipment, and the program, it’s $185.

The only thing about winter activities is that it can get expensive. However, if you plan ahead, you can save yourself some money. Ski Big Bear already has released their unlimited season pass for this winter. What you get with an unlimited pass is access to Ski Big Bear any day they are open. Luckily for kids aged 5 and younger, they get a pass for free when a parent buys one. That is hard to beat. If you buy your Ski Big Bear season pass by November 10, 2014, it will be $270. If you buy it between November 11th and December 8th, it’s $295. If you are late to the game and get it anytime after December 9th, you will have to pay the regular price of $320. The same goes for equipment rental. Be sure to get a season pass so you will only have to be measured and fitted once.
