What to Do at Promised Land State Park

Even if you don’t have a lot of time to spend at Promised Land State Park, you can at least have lunch there. Pack up your family and a picnic and head over. Grab a table at the picnic area for free. Space is available on a first come-first serve basis. You can always spread a blanket on the grass and enjoy a relaxing meal while you soak in the surroundings. Make sure you take some time to walk off your lunch and take in some of the local flowers and trees before you have to get back to your day.
Hit the Trail
If you have a few hours to spend at the park, check out the 50 miles of hiking trails. Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron bloom in early summer. Grab a a trail map to help you navigate your way and find points of interest. Promised Land State Park has an amazing trail system. Bruce Lake Trail leads to a natural glacial lake. Little Falls Trail offers views of small cascades. Visitors can also take a loop trail around Conservation Island. As always with hiking, keep safety in mind and wear the correct clothing and shoes.
Make Waves
Swimming, boating and fishing are the prime water activities at Promised Land State Park. From late May to mid-September, two sand beaches are open from 8 a.m. to sunset. The Main Beach is located at the picnic area. Pickerel Point Beach is located at the end of Pickerel Point. Boating on Promised Land Lake is always fun. Make sure you bring only electric motors or feel free to take advantage of Promised Land State Park’s boat rental. Rentals are a choice of rowboats, canoes, paddle boats and one or two person kayaks. Bring your rod and reel and head over to Promised Land Lake or Lower Lake and catch some dinner. Largemouth and smallmouth bass, pickerel, muskellunge, yellow perch, sunfish and catfish are all found in the lakes here. Make sure you check with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission website before you start casting your line.
